Uunchai depicts the story of friendship, expectations, and acceptance. The four friends- Amit Srivastav i.e. Amitabh Bachchan, Om  Sharma i.e Anupam Kher, Javed Siddique i.e. Boman Irani, Bhupen Bora i.e  Danny Denzongpa are all in their  70s and 80s.

They share a close relationship. Suddenly Bhupen dies and the remaining three gets distorted and disappointed. Then these three friends decide to fulfill Bhupen’s wish. Before his death, Bhupen wished to climb the base camp of Mt Everest with all his friends.

Despite their old age and health issues,  they venture to reach the base camp of Mt Everest. Shraddha i.e Parineeti Chopra, their trekking instructor guides them to reach their destination.

This is what constitutes the main plot of the story but there are several layers of individual backstories in the movie.

Script:

The story of this film is written by Sunil Gandhi and Abhishek Dixit has written the film’s screenplay.

The strength of this movie lies in its unique and out-of-the-box storyline. Both its story and screenplay are marvelous. In the Second half of the movie each back story gets unwrapped, layers get unfolded, and as a result, the audience gets delighted. These back stories are very close to heart. Although the trekking portion of the movie covers a large portion, the audience never gets bored or exasperated. The drama in the Second half of the movie is outstanding. Abhishek Dixit’s dialogues bear witness to his craftsmanship.

Performance Of The Actors:

Amitabh Bachchan as Amit Srivastav has become Amit Srivastav himself. He has merged into the character of Amit Srivastav.

Anupam Kher as Om Sharma is extraordinary because the way he talks, reacts, and cries is worth watching.

Boman Irani has done justice to the role of Javed Siddique. He has left his mark on the movie.

Sarika as Mala Trivedi has done a very fine job.

Neena Gupta is at her best as Sabina Siddique. Her expressions, body language, facial expressions, and attitude have contributed a lot to the development of the story.

Trekk Instructor Shraddha i.e Parineeti Chopra has done well. It seems that she has well understood the story and pain of these old men and thus she helps them to reach their goal.

Danny Denzongpa’s guest appearance is also endearing.

Again Nafisa Ali’s performance is praiseworthy  ( guest appearance)

Direction:

Sooraj Barjatya, the master craftsman, is outstanding as usual. The audience can not help praising his close-to-heart narrative style.

Amit Trivedi’s music and Irshad Kamil’s lyrics have already become popular. Their ‘Keti Ko ‘ song is trending. Although other songs are not so popular, they are worth listening.
