India Lockdown, an anthology Indian movie, released on Zee5 on December 2, 2022

A movie or cinema is an art that can create commotion in a serene atmosphere and it can also transform a seemingly calm atmosphere into a chaotic one. Madhur Bhandarkar’s film India Lockdown can be categorized as one of those few movies which possesses the aforesaid quality.

TFW will critically review Madhur Bhandarkar’s recently released movie India Lockdown in the discussion that follows:

On March 2020 entire India went into lockdown to curb the spread of COVID-19. The movie narrates in detail the aftermath of the lockdown. To speak the truth, the underprivileged sections of the country were the worst sufferers.

India Lockdown Movie Review – Plot:

It is an anthology in which four different tales are told dramatically. The first tale sheds light on the life of a migrant laborer who has lost their job because of the lockdown.

In the second tale, the story of Meharunnesha, a sex worker, who lives in Kamathipura is shown. She faces economic stringencies due to the lockdown. The 3rd tale narrates the story of a pilot who finds it difficult to cope with the surroundings of his house during the lockdown period.

In the 4th tale, M. Nageshwar Rao becomes helpless as he gets stuck in a faraway town because of the lockdown. At that time his daughter was passing through the worst phase of her life.

India Lockdown Movie Review – Performance:

The story of the movie is inspired by some real incidents that occurred during the lockdown period. Madhur Bhandarkar, the master craftsman, knows exactly how to present these incidents on screen.

He has chosen people from different sections of the country to showcase the dark reality of lockdown. The screenplay of the movie is powerful. In addition to this, background music, casting and dialogue are in keeping with the theme of the movie.

Pratik Babbar‘s acting as a middle-class couple is praiseworthy. Sweata who plays the role of a prostitute in the movie is also good. Above all, Prakash as a helpless father has done a decent job.

India Lockdown Movie Review: Conclusion

The second half of the movie is okay but the first half lags.

TFW gives the movie 3 stars out of 5
