Ashutosh Ramnarayan Neekhra, commonly known as Ashutosh Rana is an Indian actor. He is also known as Jeeva in South Indian Film Industry. He is not only a versatile actor but also a producer. Besides being an actor, he also writes books. His writings include Ramrajya(Hindi), Maun Muskaan Ki Maar, etc which are available both online and offline.

Ashutosh Rana Biography

Ashutosh was born on 10th November 1967 in Gadarwara, Madhya Pradesh, India. He has an ideal parent. Under the proper guidance of his father, he was brought up in a Hindu family. He completed his schooling at Gadarwara, his hometown.

When he was a child, he used to perform in the role of Ravana in a local drama production house, Ramleela Productions. So it is certain that he was very active in stage performances during his academic years. Later, he took admission to the National School of Drama to polish his own acting skills.

He did his graduation from Dr. Hari Singh Gour University. All this time he staged drama whenever he got the opportunity. He was also seen in stages with Guru Satyadev Dubey.

Serials

Ashutosh Rana created his own identity in the field of on-stage acting at an early age. He became a popular face in theatre. He got his breakthrough in Television serial in 1995 with Swabhiman. Thereafter, he appeared in Television Serials one after another. The worth-mentioning serials in which he played roles were Farz, Sazish, Jax Kabhi, Waris, etc.

He also worked as an anchor at that time on TV shows like Baazi Kiski. He was the host of the reality show Sarkar Ki Duniya. It was held on Mango Island, Karwar, Karnataka. Ashutosh Rana, the name came to the limelight with his success in the movie Dushman in 1998. In the movie, he played the role of a psycho killer named Gakul Pandit.

Though he appeared in three movies before it, he could not succeed to get recognition. Actually, he debuted in Bollywood in 1996 with the movie Sansodhan playing a minor role (of a clerk in BDO’s office). Though the movie was quite good at the box office, he failed to brag anything. Tamanna was followed by it. It was a drama film directed by Mahesh Bhatt.

Ashutosh Rana was a contract killer in the movie. Next, he appeared in the movie Krishna Arjun (1997). There he played the role of Billo Singh. Then came Dushman in 1998 which led him to the path of success in his career. His journey as a full-fledged actor started from then on.

Next, his negative role as Shyamsundar in the movie Ghulam was commendable. The public, at large, was amazed to see his eyes which were terrifying. Next, he got the project of the movie Zakhm (1998). Some well-known dialogues  of the movie are: “Jab bura waqt Aata Hai na…insaan ko apne kadh se ucha sochna chahiye(people should think beyond their limit when they get into limitless troubles).”

“Andhi jab chalti hai na.. toh haat chodne ka nehi, haat thaamne ka waqt hota hai (In a tempest people should tighten the grip of their hands).In this film, he played the role of villain Subodh Malgaonkar.

Bollywood has produced many villainous characters for us but no one can even come closer to Lajja Shankar Pandey. Ashutosh Rana portrayed the negative role with his hardcore acting skills in the movie Sangharsh.

He became the most iconic villain in Bollywood movies after this one. The presence of the ululating scenes in the movie made it more attractive to the audience. It was known from the sources that the ululating scenes were shot in one take.

So it is clear how polished an actor he is. Despite the blend of suspense and romance, the movie was not commercially successful.

Then he appeared in Akshay Kumar starrer Jaanwar in 1999 as Abdul. Then in 2000, he acted in the lead role of Inder in the Haryanvi language romantic film Ladoo. After 2000 he started to appear in different roles. In the movie Badal, he acted as DIG Jai Singh Rana. In Tarkeib he was major Dr. Kamal Dogra. In 2001, he shared the screen with Naseeruddin Shah, and Om Puri in the movie Guru Mahaaguru.

He next acted in the supporting role in Kasoor, a suspense thriller. He played the role of a senior Inspector Lokhande. In 2002, he acted in movies like Raaz, Ansh: The Deadly Part, Danger, Ab Ke Baras, Gunah, Annarth,Karz: The Burden of Truth, 2 October. Among all these, his negative role in the movie Karz :The Burden of Truth proved him to be a terrifying villain.

In 2003, he acted in movies like Haasil, Sandhya, LOC: Kargil, and Dil Pardesi Ho Gaya. Haasil was a crime drama film. The story centered around a college led by two gangs. They were rivals. Gauri Shankar (Ashutosh) was  the president of the college students’ Union. On the other hand, Rannvijay Singh the leader of another political gang. Next, he showed up in the movie Sandhya. There he lost his entire family.

As a result, he became depressed and had to be admitted to his own hospital. He hired a killer(Jaggu) to murder him. He wanted to die on the same day when his family was murdered. After that, he was seen playing the role of Grenadier Yogesh Singh Yadav in the movie LOC: Kargil.

He portrayed well the indomitable spirit of Subedar Major Yogendra Singh Yadav. Next, he acted in Dil Pardesi Ho Gaya playing the role of Major Ram. Needless to say, he became a busy actor at that time. He got busy with his film projects all through the year. His dialogue throwing, understanding of the character he played, and his expression made him Ashutosh Rana whom we know today.

In 2004, he showed up his genius in movies like Pardesi Re, ‘Chot-Aj Isko, Kal Tereko’, and Ab Tumhare Hawale Watan Saathiyo. In Pardesi Re, he played the lead role of Prabhakar who was a folk singer from Allahabad. He also played the lead role in Chot-Aj Isko, Kal Tereko.In the movie, he portrayed the character of Kishan Yadav, a dairy farmer.Kabir(Rohit Nayyar) was his brother.

They both confronted hurdles when a promoter took over their land. Then a corrupt police officer killed Kabir. The plot came to an end with Kishan’s vengeance on the promoter. In Ab Tumhare Hawale Watan Saathiyo he played the role of Sikandar Khan. In 2005 he did a Bengali film entitled Babu Masai.

He played an intense role, as a jail officer. In 2005, he appeared in movies like Shabnam Mausi, Dil Ke Pechey Pechey, and Kalyug. Among all these, Shabnam Mausi was a film about an Indian transgender. She was the first Indian Transgender MLA. The film was all about her life, her political career her thoughts on human welfare. Ashutosh Rana portrayed the transgender character very well. The movie was directed by Yogesh Bharadwaj and produced by J Manoj.

Dil Ke Piche Piche is a movie about a naval officer Vanraj.  The movie was directed by Gopal Malhotra. He appeared in Cameo in Kalyug. In 2006 he did a Telegu film named Bangaran where he played the villainous character Bhooma Reddy. Apart from all these, he was seen acting in movies like Dhoka, Summer 2007, Coffee House, Monica, Kismet Love Paisa Dilli, Ata Pata Laapata, Zila Ghaziabad, Mutthi Bhar Sapne, Desi Kattey, and Dirty Politics.

Then he was seen appearing in most of the movies as a good Samaritan. In the movie Brothers, he played the role of a martial art coach of the underground team.

In Simmba he was also seen as a good cop who was frustrated with the crime which was happening around him. In Chicken Curry Law he played the role of an honest lawyer who continues his fight for a foreign rape victim.

In 2019 he acted in War in the role of Colonel Sunil Luthra. In 2020 he appeared in the movie Bhoot – Part One: The Haunted Ship. In 2021 he acted in  Hungama 2 as Colonel Govind Kapoor.

Personal Life

Ashutosh Rana tied the knot with famous Bollywood actress Renuka Neekhra in 2001. They are the parents of two sons named Satyendra and Shauryaman. Neekhra followed her revered Guru Pandit Dev Prabhakar Shastri. She used to call him “Dadda Ji”. Her Guru suggested Rana fix his career in acting.
