She was born on 11 March 1991 in Kanpur, Maharashtra, India. There is no information available regarding her parents and family. Her educational qualifications are also unknown.

At the age of 20, Poonam started her career as a model. In 2011, she participated in “Fear Factor: Khatron Ke Khiladi 4” as a contestant and ranked 11th. Then, in 2013, she debuted in a short film “The Uncanny” as Rita.
That year, she stepped into the Bollywood Industry with the film “Nasha” as the female lead Anita Joseph, a teacher who has an illicit sexual relationship with one of her students. After that, in 2014, she made a special appearance in the song “Shyane Istha Cricketettu” in the Kannada film “Love is Poison”.

She has used her Instagram account to upload her hot and almost nude photos to draw mass media attention. She has garnered more than 3.5 lakhs followers on Instagram. In 2011, she came into the limelight when she made a promise to strip after the victory of the Indian Cricket team in the 2011 Cricket World Cup.
Fortunately, India won the final match but due to rejection from BCCI, she could not fulfill her promise to entertain her fans. Later, she posted her almost naked video on her mobile app at the Wankhede Stadium at night. The next year, when KKR (Kolkata Knight Riders) won the IPL 5, she made a nude strip. To reach a large number of fans she launched her mobile app which was immediately banned by Google from the play store later.

She was arrested when she posted a morphed image on the internet. She edited the image of Sachin Tendulkar and attached it to the body of Lord Vishnu along with her nude photo. This hurt the sentiments of the Indians and she was imprisoned under section 295A of the IPC.

On 1st September 2020, she got engaged to her long-term boyfriend, Sam Bombay at the residence in Mumbai in presence of her friends and family. On 11 September, she lodged a complaint against her husband for molesting, threatening, and assaulting her.
On 23 September, the police arrested him in Goa. Though after a few days, Bombay was freed from jail and she solved the misunderstanding with her husband. After this incident, many criticized and trolled her on social media.
