Vasan Bala’s recently released Netflix film ‘ Monica O My Darling ‘ is a twisted tale of love, blackmail, lust, greed, murder, class- conflict, and corruption.
Vasan Bala is indebted to Nasir Hussain’s 1971 film Caravan’s unforgettable item number ‘ Priya tu ab to a ja..’ for the title of his movie. He copied the phrase ‘ Monica O My Darling ‘ from that particular song.
The premise of the movie is set in a robotics company and the movie begins with a high note of suspense. Then the audience is introduced to a company party where characters and relationships are established. The protagonist of the movie Jayant is played by Rajkumar Rao.
Jayant comes from a village called Angola, a name that no one heard before. Although he describes himself as ‘ Mamuli Ghora’ ( an ordinary horse), through hard and smart work he ascends the ladder of success.
Jayant falls in love with the company owner’s daughter and becomes the butt of target of his other colleagues.
Suddenly someone commits the heinous crime of murder and things start to get entangled.
The dialogues co-written by Vasan Bala and Yogesh Chanderkar are simply brilliant.
Rajkumar Rao has done a fine job as an ordinary man who is undone by his ambitions.
Huma Qureshi is outstanding to showcase Monica’s cunningness.
Bagavathi Perumal’s presence on the Screen is enough to entertain the audience.
Radhika Apte has done well.
Sikandar Kher’s performance is also praiseworthy.
Akansha Ranjan Kapoor played the role of a clueless rich girl which is perfect too.
The movie is not altogether flawless. It has certain negative aspects too. Despite these negative facts, the movie is enjoyable.
