Mamata Banerjee is an Indian politician. She is the present Chief Minister of West Bengal, India. She was born on 5th January 1955 in Calcutta (now Kolkata). Promileswar Banerjee, a freedom fighter, was his father. Her mother Gayetri Devi was a housewife. She always regrets the death of her father who died due to lack of medical treatment.

Mamata Banerjee’s Religion:

Mrs.Banerjee came of a Hindu brahmin family. Therefore, she is an austere Hindu.

 Mamata Banerjee’s Education:

She completed her Higher Secondary Board Examination from Desh Bandhu Sishu Sikshalaya in 1970. Therefore, She became an honors graduate in history  ( from Jogmaya Devi College, Kolkata) . She also holds a master’s degree in Islamic History  ( from the University of Calcutta).

Political Career:

Mrs.Banerjee’s political career got started when she was only 15 years old. While she was in Jogmaya Devi College studying honors in history, She formed Chattra Parisad Unions, the students’ Wing of the Congress Party. Therefore, She was able to defeat the Democratic Students’ Union of the Socialist Unity Centre Of India in the college elections.

Thus, in 1970 she began her career as a young woman under the banner of the Congress Party. The local leaders of the Congress Party helped her lot to rise quickly in ranks. As a result, she remained the general Secretary of Mahila Congress of West Bengal from 1976 to 1980. Therefore, She continued to serve the Congress Party and was offered a variety of positions within the party and in local political organizations. Moreover, in 1984 Mrs.Banerjee defeated the veteran Communist politician Somnath Chatterjee and won the Jadavpur Parliamentary Constituency in the general election of West Bengal. Therefore, she became the youngest parliamentarian to do so. The Indian Youth Congress made her the general Secretary.

In the general election of 1989, there was an anti-congress atmosphere in the state and as a consequence, she lost her seat but in the general election of 1991, Mrs.Banerjee was re-elected from the Calcutta South Constituency.

In 1991’s Rao Government She was made the Union Minister of Human Resources Development, Youth Affairs and Sports and Women and Child Development.

In 1993 she tried to get rid of her portfolios. On April 1996 she blamed that Congress was acting as a henchman of the CPI-M in West Bengal.

Formation of Trinamul Congress:

Mrs.Banerjee’s ideologies clashed with the existing ideologies of Indian National Congress Party. Therefore, in 1997 she left the Congress Party in West Bengal and established the All India Trinamul Congress. In 1999 she decided to join BJP-led National Democratic Alliance  (NDA) Govt. and therefore, She was assigned the Railways Ministry. In early 2001 her feelings were hurt as Operation West End exposed Tehelka. Hence, she walked out of the NDA cabinet. In 2001’s general election of West Bengal, she again formed an alliance with Congress Party but in January 2004 she again returned to the NDA cabinet and held the Coal Mines valise till the Indian general election of 20 May 2004.

Mrs.Banerjee had to struggle a lot before becoming the Chief Minister of West Bengal, India. In 2009’s Parliamentary election she formed an alliance with United Progressive Alliance (UPA) led by Indian National Congress. It was not easy for her to win election against the strong political opponent CPI-M but in 2011 she had a landslide victory over her opponents. Ultimately, she became the Chief Minister of West Bengal, India ending the 34 years rule of the left front.

In 2016 West Bengal Legislative Assembly Election was held for 294 seats (out of 295 seats). AITUC did not find any strong opponent to stand against them. As a result, Mrs. Banerjee’s party won the election with a landslide two-thirds majority winning 211 seats out of total 293.

2021’s West Bengal Legislative Assembly Election was a remarkable chapter in Mrs. Banerjee’s entire political career. She faced the Prime Minister Narendra Modiji as her opponent but because of her charisma, she became victorious again. She won 213 seats and became the Chief Minister of West Bengal, India for the 3rd time.

Mamata Banerjee Poems:

Mrs.Banerjee wrote a number of poems. Her poems are simple. ‘Naam’ (Name), ‘Prasna'(Question), ‘Thank You ‘, ‘Samman’ (Respect), ‘Chuti’ (Holiday) are notable among them.

Mamata Banerjee Paintings:

Besides being a poet, She also manifests her inclination towards painting. One of her paintings was auctioned in New York’S Sundaram Tagore Gallery. A non – government organization bought her painting ‘ Flower Power’ in $ 3000. She also designed the logo of her ambitious project ‘Sabuj Saathi’(Green Companion).

Mamata Banerjee Help-Line Number:

As the Chief Minister of West Bengal She has launched a variety of ambitious projects like ‘Kanyashree‘(Educate You Daughter), ‘Sabuj Saathi’ (Green Companion), Students’ Credit card ‘ etc.

She played an important role in controlling the pandemic. She is presently toiling day and night to curb the spread of Omicron, a new variant of Coronavirus in the state.
