Anand Kumar is a popular Indian Mathematics Teacher. He is known to all for his program “Super 30” in which he guides brilliant and poor students to get success in JEE -Advanced. His guidance helps the students to appear in one of the toughest exams in India.
In 2002, he started this initiative in Patna, Bihar, and with his proper guidance,422 out of 510 students cracked the entrance exam for IITs.As his financial condition was unstable, he could not pursue his higher studies in Mathematics.
After the death of his peon father, he had to take responsibility of his family. So, he decided to provide free education to the poor and meritorious students, and for this purpose, he established “The Ramanujan School of Mathematics ” to set a new trend of making the students IAS officers instead of making them clerks.

He was born on 1st January 1973 into a middle-class family in Patna, Bihar. His father(name not known) worked in the post office as a clerk. His mother was Jayanti Devi. His brother Pranav Kumar was a professional violinist.
As the financial condition of their family was not good, he and his brother studied in a Hindi medium school, and since then he was deeply interested in Maths. Later, he pursued his graduation in Mathematics from B.N. College in Patna.
During his college life, he took the initiative to establish a math club “Ramanujan School of Mathematics” to train mathematics lovers free of cost. Here, his mentor Devi Prasad Verma, the then HOD of Mathematics of Patna Science College, guided all the students.
Besides, Anand went to Varanasi every weekend to study at the Central Library, BHU due to the shortage of foreign journals in the Patna University library. He lived there with his brother. In 1994, he was admitted to Cambridge and Sheffield Universities.
But unfortunately, his father died and he was not capable to continue his further education. Despite this, his paper on Number Theory was published in Mathematical Spectrum and The Mathematical Gazette.
Anand’s mother sold ‘ Papad ‘ in a small shop at home after the demise of his father. He delivered these door to door for earning some extra bucks. He also got the class III job because of his father’s sudden death. To train needy students for several competitive exams, he changed the structure of the math club into a coaching center.
He spent Rs. 500 to rent a house for this center and started his mission with two students. Within one year, the number increased to 36 and at the end of 3 years, it included 500 students. He took only Rs. 1000 per annum from each student. In 2000, he also sponsored the fees for those students who came from underprivileged backgrounds.

In 2002, he along with his brother executed a plan to start an interesting program called Super 30. Through this program, they selected 30 poor but meritorious students for IIT. He also provided them with food, lodgings, and study materials for a year. Since then, every year, he arranges a competitive test to select 30 poor but meritorious students.
From 2003 onwards, he guided 450 students under this program, and fortunately, 391 students cracked IIT -JEE. Between 2008 & 2012, he got 100% success.
The “Super 30” program made him very popular. It has also been screened in the form of an hour-long documentary aired on the Discovery channel in March 2009. Even, his outstanding story of success was printed in a half-page article in the “New York Times”.
In the next year, he appeared in many BBC programs. He also worked with actress and former Miss Japan Novita Fujiwara in Patna. Besides, he took the invitation to share his experiences at IITs, IIM Ahmedabad, University of British Columbia, Tokyo University, and Stratford University.
In 2009, he enlisted his name to the Limca Book of Records for his “Super 30” program. In 2010, his program got a place in the “Times” Magazine” where it was included in the list of Best of Asia. In the same year, he achieved” Ramanujan Awards” from The Institute of Research and Documentation in Social Sciences(IRDS).
Even, in 2011, Anand got the recognition from US president Barack Obama’s special envoy Rashal Hussain who mentioned his institute as the best institute in the Colony. He was also awarded the “Ramanujan Mathematics Awards” at the 8th National Mathematical convention in Rajkot, Madhya Pradesh. From Karpagam University, he was also honored with D.Sc. In addition, he got the honor from Govt. of British Columbia, Canada, and the Ministry of Education of Saxony of Germany.
In May 2016, Vikas Bahl, the Filmfare, and National Film Award Winning director decided to make a movie based on the life of Anand. In 2019, the movie” Super 30” was released, which was produced by Preeti Sinha. Hrithik Roshan portrayed the character of Anand Kumar.
In June 2016, Nitish Kumar, CM of Bihar launched his biography written by psychiatrist Biju Mathew in collaboration with journalist Arun Kumar in the Canadian language.
