Indian fans were left surprised and happy when Navdeep’s silver in the men’s javelin throw F41 event was upgraded to gold on Saturday night.

Navdeep, who broke the Paralympic record with a 47.32m throw, was later overtaken by the Iranian Sadgeh Beit Sayah who won the gold medal with a throw of 47.64m.

However, after the completion of the final, Sayah was disqualified due to a violation of rule 8.1 of the World Para Athletics Rules and Regulations (Code of Conduct and Ethics).

Is this the moment that got Iranian javelin thrower Sadegh Beit Sayah in trouble?

According to the final results, Sayah was disqualified as per rule 8.1 of the World Para Athletics Rules and Regulations (Code of Conduct and Ethics)

As per rule 8.1 of the World Para Athletics, “World Para Athletics (WPA) is committed to maintaining the highest standards of integrity, ethics, and conduct in the sport of Para athletics. All participants in the sport, including athletes, coaches, officials, and administrators, have a responsibility to uphold these standards and ensure that the sport is conducted in a fair, honest, and transparent manner.”

While there is no official confirmation as to why Sadgeh was disqualified, the Paralympic website displays yellow cards against his name.

He was issued the first card for celebrating aggressively after his second throw and the second card came when was seen taking out a religious flag after winning the competition.

Later, Iran protested the claim but it was eventually denied meaning India won its seventh gold medal.

India has won a total of 29 medals at the 2024 Paris Paralympics including seven gold, nine silver, and 13 bronze medals and is placed 16th in the medal tally.
