AFC Womens Champions League: Urawa Reds demolish Odisha FCs defense

Odisha FC women’s team began their AFC Women’s Champions League 2024/25 Group Stage campaign with a humbling 0-17 defeat against Urawa Red Diamonds Ladies of Japan at the Thong Nhat Stadium on Sunday.

From the outset, the Japanese side demonstrated their superiority which was further escalated as Shreya Hooda made several cheeky errors in the first few minutes of the match.

The Odisha FC was in complete shock against the explosive attacking start and the quick movement off the ball from Urawa Reds, scoring more than 5 goals in just the first 20 minutes.

Yu Endo opened the scoring for Urawa in the fifth minute, and then Miki Ito (56′, 59′, 62′, 90+4′) scored four goals while Yuzuho Shiokoshi (15′, 18′, 30′) completed her hat-trick in the first half itself.

Satoko Fujisaki (9′), Ena Takatsuka (13′), Mei Shimada (17′, 44′) Ririka Tanno (52′), Akari Kurishima (54′), Fuka Tsunoda (68′) and Ami Takeuchi (83′) were the other seven scorers.

Shreya Hooda made a few critical saves in the second half to keep the scoreline from escalating further but it was already a big thumping for the side.

For Odisha, there weren’t any good chances except a few when Jennifer showcased a brilliant solo effort down the middle, though her run was ultimately halted by a Urawa defender. They had just one shot on target in the whole match.

Odisha, who could not find the back of the net in their opening fixture will be eager to regroup and seek a comeback in their next match against Vietnam’s Ho Chi Minh City Women’s FC on Wednesday.
