She came into this world in a Maratha family on 7th October 1966 in Bombay (now Mumbai), India. Her father was Lt. CDR Vijay Kumar Shahane who served Indian Navy as an officer.
On the other hand, her mother was Shanta Gokhle who was well-known in the Maratha Theatre. In her childhood, her parents got separated and after that, her mother married Arun khopkar, a filmmaker, for the second time.
But unfortunately, her mother also divorced him and got engaged in a long-term friendship with Jolly Pinto, who was a film journalist. Renuka had a brother named Girish Shahane who was a contemporary writer.
She completed her graduation in Psychology at St. Xavier’s College, Mumbai. Then she pursued her post-graduation in Clinic Psychology from Mumbai University. Since childhood, she had a long-cherished desire to become an actress.

At the age of 22, Renuka made her acting debut in the Hindi film “Tamacha” in the role of Rashmi in 1988. From 1989-to 1990, she featured the role of Maria in a TV reality show “Circus “. After that, she appeared in two Bollywood films “Haach Sumbaicha Bhan”(Nandita) and “Hun Humshi Humshilal”(Parveen).

Thereafter, in 2006, in the Maratha film Rita, she got the role of Saraswati. The next, she debuted in “Jeete Hain Jiske Liye ” as Anjali Dhanrajgir. In addition, in 2010, she participated in “Jhalak Dikhhala Jaa 4 ” as a contestant and presented herself as a host in a Maratha show “Hayla Jeevan Aiwe Naav”.
Besides, in that year, she appeared as a judge in” Fu Bai Fu”; as a host in” Awaj Maharashcha” and as a co-host in “Ladies First”.
Consequently, in 2014, she acted in such movies as “Bhakarkaadi 7 km”,” Dusari Ghost”, and ” Akalpith”. In that year she portrayed her name role in the TV show “Mere Rong Mein Rangne Wali”.
