PV Sindhu, HS Prannoy, Satwik/Chirag drop in BWF World Rankings

Indian shuttlers lost their places in the latest BWF World Rankings as PV Sindhu, HS Prannoy, and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy/Chirag Shetty dropped in their respective categories.

The prominent Indian shuttlers are yet to return to action after a disappointing campaign at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

While HS Prannoy is taking a break from the game due to his battle with injuries and health issues, Lakshya Sen and PV Sindhu are set to return at the Arctic Open starting today.

Men’s doubles duo Satwik/Chirag were supposed to return at the Denmark Open next week but the duo has withdrawn as per the BWF website.

In men’s singles, Lakshya Sen is the top-ranked Indian male shuttler at world number 19 while HS Prannoy is ranked 24 but his ranking is protected at 17 due to his injury.

Priyanshu Rajawat (world number 34), Kidambi Srikanth (world number 38), and Kiran George (world number 39) are the other Indian male shuttlers in the world’s top 40.

PV Sindhu further dropped two places in the women’s singles to world number 16 and she will want to climb further with a good show at Arctic Open.

After a good showing in China Open, Malvika Bansod has kept her place in the world top 40 with world number 37 while Anmol Kharb also improved after her two titles and has entered the world top 150 with 141st rank.

In men’s doubles, Satwik/Chirag has dropped to world number seven as compared to world number three when the Olympics ended. The duo was expected to take part in the Denmark Open starting next week but their withdrawal means that their ranking can go down further.

Tanisha Crasto and Ashwini Ponnappa remain the only Indian women’s doubles pair in the world top 20 ranked world number 17 while the pair of Treesa Jolly/Gayatri Gopichand is ranked world number 21.
