Neha Sharma, Shiksha wins bronze medals

Indian women’s freestyle wrestlers continued their good showing as Neha Sharma and Shiksha won the bronze medal at the U23 World Wrestling Championships in Tirana, Albania on Friday.

With this, the Indian women’s freestyle wrestling contingent ended the tournament with four medals: One Silver and three Bronze medals.

India now has a total of five medals from these championships and with the men’s freestyle medal matches to commence tomorrow, they will be aiming to add a few more to their tally.

Neha Shama has now won back-to-back medals at the U23 World Championships after her close victory (5-0) against China’s Mingyue Zhang in the bronze medal match of women’s 57 Kg.

Meanwhile, the 17-year-old, Shiksha clinched the bronze medal in women’s 65 kg category on her debut. She ousted (6-3) the powerhouse, Japanese wrestler Rin Teramoto in the bronze medal match.

Abhishek Dhaka into the bronze medal match

The men’s freestyle wrestlers were also in action at the elimination round on Friday. Abhishek Dhaka (61 Kg) was the only Indian wrestler to reach the semifinals on the first day of men’s freestyle action.

However, he could not take it further and lost his semifinal bout to Azerbaijani wrestler, Ruslan Abdullayev but now he will still be competing in the bronze medal match tomorrow evening.

On the other hand, Anirudh (125 Kg) and Deepak Nehra (86 Kg) will also be in quest for a medal tomorrow as they will be competing in the repechage round.

The final five men’s freestyle categories (57-65-70-79-97 kg) will also unveiled tomorrow which will have experienced wrestlers like Sujeet Kalkal and Mohit.
