Mumaith Khan Biography:
Mumaith was born on 1st September 1985 in Mumbai, India. Her father Abdul Rashid is a retired employee of Mahindra and Mahindra Group. He belongs to Tamilnadu, India whereas her mother Hasina Khan hails from Pakistan. She has three sisters. Zabyn khan, one of her sisters has recently stepped into the South Indian film industry.
In her childhood, she had to face a financial crisis because of the retirement of her father. In order to support her family, she joined Remo D’Suza’s dance troop. In the beginning, she received only Rs 1500/ – as remuneration. A few years later, she moved to Hyderabad with a view to work in the Tollywood film industry. After that, she progressed further in her career.
Career:
Mumaith appeared in numerous item songs and cameo roles in Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, and Hindi movies. In the beginning She used to work as a background dancer. She got the major breakthrough of her career when she was offered to work as an item dancer in the song of the movie ‘ Munnabhai MBBBS ‘.She was only 17 years old then. Moreover, her conservative parents were reluctant to send their daughter in the shooting of the song. But the filmmakers approached them and eventually convinced them. The song ‘ Dekhle Akhon Mein Aakhein Daal Seekhle ‘ literally annihilated the audience.
Thereafter, she appeared in the movie ‘ Lucky, no time for love ‘. Although she got featured in back-to-back Hindi films, she did not limit herself to Hindi films only. Therefore, she turned to the South Indian film industry.
Her first Telugu film was ‘Swami’.Then the famous Telugu film director Puri Jagannath approached her for his film ‘143 and I Miss You ‘.The film received mixed responses. Meanwhile, S.S.Rajamouli offered her for an item number in his movie ‘ Chatrapati’.Mumaith performed in the song ‘ Manela Tintivira’.Although she was getting featured in consecutive South Indian films, she did not become completely oblivious of the Hindi Film Industry. At the same time, she also worked in several Hindi films like- Hulchul, Ek Khiladi Ek Haseena, and Fight Club.
Mumaith had already established herself as a successful artist in the Hindi Film Industry but she struggled a lot to settle in the South Indian film industry. Finally, Puri Jagannath’s film Pokiri (2006) gave her the opportunity. She performed in the item song ‘Ippatikinka’ which was dearly loved by the South Indian audiences. The movie became so popular that it was dubbed in other Indian languages like Tamil, Hindi, Bengali, and Kannada. In Pokir’s Tamil version superstar, Vijay was in the lead role and Mumaith also worked in the film.
She appeared either in cameo or item numbers of the movies so far. Nevertheless, she was seen in the lead role of a movie. In 2007 she appeared in the lead role of the Telugu movie ‘ Maisamma IPS’.The story of the movie centers round a girl named Maisamma who lost her parents in her childhood. She becomes an IPS officer to average the death of her beloved sister. Though it was an average movie, she received positive feedback for her acting.
Idle Brain:
On January 5, 2016, Mumaith returned home from a trip to Goa. She was enjoying her leisure in her apartment. Suddenly, she looked at the mirror and thought that she was looking exactly like Kajal in ‘Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge’ and hence in a spur of the moment she tried to imitate the dance steps of Kajol but accidentally she slipped on her marbled floor. She became unconscious and was taken to a nearby hospital. The doctors declared that she received internal head injuries. Her 3 brain nerves were damaged. As a result, the doctors decided to insert titanium wire to cure the damaged nerves. They forbade her to walk for 8 months. They also advised her to take 2 years break from her regular work.
