In a significant revelation for the football community, the Mizoram Football Association (MFA) has announced the discovery of corruption involving match manipulation in the recently concluded Mizoram Premier League.
In response to these findings, strict penalties have been imposed on the individuals and clubs involved.
Three clubs, namely, Sihphir Venghlun FC, FC Bethlehem, and Ramhlun Athletic FC have been banned for three years, along with three match officials.
As many as 24 players were banned by the Mizoram FA, and two players, Lalnunzama of Chanmari FC, and L. Lotha of FC Bethlehem have been ‘banned from any and all football activities for a lifetime.’
In addition to that, in the press release, MFA stated that they are “committed to upholding the highest standards of integrity in our competitions.”
In light of these developments, the MFA reassured stakeholders of its dedication to preventing such incidents from recurring.
Plans to enhance regulatory frameworks and strengthen monitoring mechanisms are in place to ensure the fairness of future competitions.
“We also assure stakeholders that Clubs found to be complicit in these activities will face sanctions affecting their participation in future competitions, and players and officials implicated will be subject to suspensions and other disciplinary measures deemed appropriate by the MFA,” they said.
The MFA has also called on football fans, partners, and the wider community to unite in addressing this challenging situation. “Your continued support is vital as we work to restore trust and ensure that Mizoram football remains a symbol of fair play, passion, and unity,” they added.
