Lionel Messi, the legendary footballer, was born on June 24, 1987, in Rosario, Argentina. His father Jorge Messi was a steel Factory Manager. His mother Maria Cuccittini worked as a part-time cleaner.

Biography:

Lionel Messi grew up in a milieu that was surrounded by love. He manifested an interest in football at a tender age. When he was just five, he started to play football for the Grandoli, a local club. He had the opportunity to get his father as his very first coach. Thereafter, he played for Newell’s Old Boys, a renowned club at Rosario in Argentina. Messi was dearly loved by his grandmother and when she passed away, he became grief-stricken over her death. Therefore, he could not manage to attend football ground for weeks. After that, his father motivated him to continue to play football. As a consequence, he became more determined than before and swore to make his grandmother proud of him. A determined Messi dreamed of becoming a professional footballer in the future. Unfortunately, at the age of just 11, he was diagnosed with the growth of hormone deficiency which suggested that he was physically unable to grow. Therefore, he needed a special and expensive therapy treatment that cost nearly  $ 900 a month. And unfortunately enough, his parents were unable to afford it. Moreover, the local clubs where Messi used to play denied helping an ailing Messi.

Although Messi was the shortest player on his team, his love for football was boundless. As the proverb goes`- fortune favors the brave -‘ so was the case with Messi. Hence, physical obstacles could not curb his indomitable spirit. His football skills were noticed by the sporting director of FC Barcelona. He came forward and promised to offer help to Messi by paying his medical bills but one condition prevailed. Eventually, he suggested that Messi should move to Spain.

ChOh Hao Li, a Chinese- American endocrinologist discovered the growth hormone. Growth hormone is basically a protein structure that consists of 191 amino acids. Excessive secretion of growth hormone causes gigantism whereas its under secretion results in dwarfism.

Career:

When in the year 2000 Messi started to play for the Junior System ranks, his career officially began. He became the only player to play in five different teams in this category. Thereafter, he started to rise in ranks, and on 1 May 2005, he scored the very first goal of his career. He created history in a La Liga game for Barcelona. Later, in 2005 he received Spanish citizenship. In 2006 Messi became a part of the team which won both the La Liga Spanish League and Champions League. In the next season  (2006-2007)he became a strong contender for the striker of the Barcelona team  ( age 20).

He scored 14 goals in 26 league matches. Messi’s actions for scoring goals reminded the spectators of Maradona. Therefore, fans started to call him ‘ Messidona’.In February 2007, Messi played his 100th match for Barcelona against Valencia CF. 2009 was Messi’s yet another successful year because he not only won Copa del Rey but also helped his team to win La Liga and the Champions League.

Moreover, he scored 38 goals in the season. In 2010 Messi emerged as a hat trick maker. As a Barcelona player, he scored a back-to-back hat trick in La Liga. The year came to an end with his 47 goals. In 2010 he won the title of top scorer in Copa del Rey  ( jointly with Cristiano Ronaldo/ 7 goals).

Lionel Messi Retirement:

The year  (2010-11) ended with Messi’s 53 goals in all competitions combined. Thereafter, in a UEFA Champions League match, he scored 5 goals. In 2012, he became the highest goal scorer  (91 goals) for Barcelona. Barcelona renewed its contract with this supremely outstanding footballer until 2018. Messi’s injuries hindered his further progress but he pulled around in 2014  and began to play for his team. His hat trick against Sevilla in November made him the all-time top scorer in La Liga. 2015 was Messi another amazing season.  The entire team scored 122 goals out of which 41 goals were scored by Messi alone. On 26th June 2016, Argentina lost to Chile in the Copa America Centenario and as a result, a heartbroken Messi announced his retirement. After that, a massive campaign all around the globe urged him to reverse his decision. Finally, Messi’s heart melted and he promised his fans that he would be a part of the Argentinean team in the world cup of 2018.
