ISSF Junior World Cship: India wins three medals on final day, tops medal tally

The Indian junior shooting squad finished the 2024 ISSF World Junior Championships with 24 medals in total, with 13 golds, 3 silvers, and 8 bronze, as the tournament drew to a close on Sunday.

On the final day, the Indians won three more medals, with Parisha Gupta winning silver in the junior women’s 50m pistol, Shardul Vihan and Sabeera Haris winning bronze in the junior mixed team trap, and Mukesh Nelavalli with a bronze in junior men’s 50m pistol.

In the junior women’s 50m pistol event, Parisha Gupta secured 540 points in the final, six points behind the gold medal winner Miriam Jako, who set a new junior world record in the 50m pistol, scoring 546 points.

Parisha also won silver in the junior women’s 25m standard pistol event as well.

In the junior mixed team trap event, Czech Republic’s Ondrej Stastny and Martina Matejkova won the gold medal after winning the shoot-off against the Italians Riccardo Mirabile and Maria Teresa Maccioni.

India’s Shardul Vihan and Sabeera Haris won bronze with 138 points.

In the men’s 50m pistol, India’s Mukesh Nelavalli won bronze with 548 points, two points behind the silver medalist Luca Joldea of Romania. Imran Garayev won gold with 552 points.

This is Mukesh’s sixth medal at the Junior World Championships 2024, having already won four golds and a bronze before adding another bronze to his collection.
