Nikhat assumed the charge after the state government announced her appointment last month.

The event saw CM Reddy launching the CM’s Cup to encourage sports talent across the state.

Reddy also hailed Nikhat for her accomplishments at the international level. He also said that the youngsters should follow in Nikhat’s footsteps.

Nikhat reported to the Director General of Police, Jitender on her first day on duty.

Hailing from the state’s Nizamabad district, Nikhat rapidly rose in the international ring, emerging as a solid Indian hope, having won a gold medal at the Commonwealth Games and a bronze medal at the Asian Games. She also represented India at the recently concluded Olympics in Paris, but failed to impress.
