Long-distance runner and Asian Games bronze medallist Gulveer Singh has been selected for the Indian senior team set to compete in the Asian Cross Country Championships in Hong Kong on October 20.

The 26-year-old, who serves in the Indian Army, earned his place on the team following a stellar performance on the track this season.

Gulveer Singh made headlines last year when he secured a bronze medal in the men’s 10,000m race at the Hangzhou Asian Games.

More recently, in September, he set a new national record in the 5,000m, clocking an impressive time of 13:11.82 seconds during a World Athletics Continental Tour event in Japan.

The Athletics Federation of India (AFI) also announced both senior and junior squads for the upcoming South Asian Cross Country Championships, scheduled for November 24 in Islamabad, Pakistan.

Athletes selected for the Asian Cross Country in Hong Kong will also have the opportunity to compete in the South Asian event, provided they remain fit.

AFI President Adille Sumariwalla emphasized the importance of fitness, stating, “Any athlete who is unfit will be dropped from the national squad.”
