India continues to shine, clinches two bronze

India’s junior shooting teams continued their medal streak at the ISSF Junior World Championship 2024 securing two bronze medals on Sunday, at Lima.

The 10m air rifle mixed team of Gautami Bhanot and Ajay Malik clinched bronze by defeating Croatia’s Anamarija Turk and Darko Tomasevic with a score of 17-9 in the medal match.

These two bronze medals bring India’s total tally at the championship to five, including two golds and three bronzes.

In the qualification round, Gautami and Ajay achieved a combined score of 628.9, with Gautami scoring 315.2 and Ajay 313.7, finishing third among 34 teams.

The gold was won by China, which narrowly defeated France 17-15 in the final.

India leads the medal tally

In the 10m air pistol mixed event, Lakshita and Parmod triumphed over their compatriots Kanishka Dagar and Mukesh Nelavalli, winning 16-8 to secure another bronze for India.

Lakshita and Parmod combined for a qualifying score of 575, placing them third.

Another Indian team, Kanishka Dagar and Mukesh Nelavalli followed closely behind at fourth with a score of 573.

Germany claimed the gold in the 10m air pistol mixed final, defeating Ukraine.

India currently leads the medal standings, followed by Chinese Taipei and Romania, each with one gold and a silver.

Earlier in the competition, Kanishka Dagar, Lakshita, and Anjali Chaudhary secured team gold in the women’s 10m air pistol event, while Kanak also earned an individual bronze.

In the men’s category, Umesh Choudhary, Mukesh Nelavalli, and Parmod bagged gold in the men’s 10m air pistol event.
