John Harris Sujin of India faced a challenging day at the World Junior and Women Chess Championship for the Blind and Visually Impaired but managed to retain his joint second place in the boys’ section.
Sujin, with 2.5 points, suffered a defeat in the fourth round against tournament leader Racis Michale, who currently holds 3.5 points.
However, a crucial win in round three against fellow Indian Rahul Vaghela allowed Sujin to maintain his second position.
The tournament saw two rounds played on Monday, with a rest day scheduled for Tuesday. Play will resume on Wednesday.
In the girls’ section, India’s Aisha Sainaba and Asian Para Games medallist Megha Chakraborty secured joint second positions, both with 2.5 points.
Leader Lisenko Lubov remains ahead with 4 points. Earlier in round three, Sainaba and Megha played to a draw, earning half a point each. In the fourth round, Sainaba defeated Olena Bondar, while Megha triumphed over Poland’s Bozena Chudoba, securing full points.
As the competition intensifies, Indian players remain strong contenders for top positions in the championship.
